Service to the School
Sports/Athletic Department
WVOE commits to carrying many of the Northwestern College athletics events. This service allows for a valuable connection for the Alumni Association and proud parents of athletes especially during those away games! The sports director and the other staff announcers stream live play-by-play at www.wvoe.fm. Some of the sports covered are football, men’s and women’s basketball and soccer, baseball and softball.
Northwestern Student Association
WVOE is actively involved with Student government (NWSA) on campus. We assist with several of their events including parties in the student center, promoting NWSA activities and student elections. In the past WVOE has broadcast debates involving the candidates for student government, during which WVOE staff has served as moderator.
Campus Relations
WVOE is one of the two public forums in which all facets of Northwestern College can be discussed. Programs on WVOE continually feature prominent figures in the Northwestern community and cover the most pertinent topics that affect the campus. One shining example is '08 graduate Goose Nissley’s news report “Race at Northwestern”. He handled the sensitive topic of race relations on campus in such an extraordinary way that he was awarded 1st place for a news report at the 2008 NRB Awards.
Student Missions
Each spring several hundred NWC students travel on mission trips throughout the world. WVOE helps raise awareness for the different trips by running PSA’s, updating fundraising drives and airing student testimonies.
Service to the Public
GMA Experience
In the past WVOE has taken students to the GMA Music Week convention in Nashville, TN with the intention of exposing more of our up-and-coming talent to one of the premier conventions in the Christian music industry. GMA week let students see firsthand that the sky is the limit in college radio and gives students a chance to interview national acts.
The 97 Hours of Christmas
The 97 hours of Christmas is an annual WVOE tradition. WVOE staff members take turns in the studio during a 97.7-hour marathon broadcast to help raise awareness and support for local organizations (that's 4 days, 1 hour, and 42 minutes). the first-ever 97 Hours of Christmas helped collect donation of winter clothes and other household items for Karen refugees living in the Twin Cities area. For the last few years, WVOE has raised gifts and donations for Christmas with Dignity, a local organization that helps provide Christmas gifts to under privileged families in the area.
